'Banquet' Patricia Portela in de maak - zintuigen terkort / The making of Patricia Portela’s Banquet - a feast for the senses
De Portugese theatermaakster Patricia Portela is steeds te vinden voor vreemdsoortige maar plezierige projecten. In 2006 toonde ze tijdens het ‘Say it Now’ festival voor het eerst de volledige trilogie Flatland. Toen werd het publiek door een aandachtszieke James Bond-figuur gekidnapt. Nu gooit Portela het over een andere boeg. Sinds 23 oktober werkt ze in Vooruit aan haar nieuwe voorstelling Banquet – een performance, luisterspel en filosofisch banket in één. Banquet gaat op 20 november in première en is nog tot zaterdag 24 november te zien in de Balzaal van Vooruit.
Portuguese dramaturge Patricia Portela is always in for odd yet entertaining projects. At the Say it Now festival in 2006, she showed the entire Flatland trilogy for the first time, during which the audience was kidnapped by an attention-craving Bond-like figure. For her new project, Portela takes an entirely different approach. Since the 23rd of October she’s been in Vooruit to rehearse Banquet, a performance, audio drama and philosophical banquet all in one. Banquet premières on the 20th of November, and will run in Vooruit’s Balzaal until Saturday the 24th of November.
De making of wordt op de voet gevolgd door studenten Theaterwetenschap, onder begeleiding van Charlotte Vandevyver. Charlotte postte onderweg een reactie. Een quote: “Twee keer al schoof ik aan tafel voor een tryout van Banquet, de nieuwe creatie van de Portugese theatermaker Patricia Portela die op 20 november in première gaat. Nog steeds kom ik ogen en vooral zintuigen tekort. Het raamwerk voor deze voorstelling is een poëtische tekst waar dialogen tussen kwetterende vogels, een prinses uit twee tijdskaders, Faust en een neurotische man met elkaar verweven worden. Het is een banket waarin we samen, refererend aan het Platoonse Symposion, het einde en de toekomst van de mensheid vieren.”
The making of is being closely followed by drama students, supervised by Charlotte Vandevyver, who posted the following in the Vooruit community: “ I’ve taken part twice in a try out of Banquet, the new creation of Portuguese dramaturge Patricia Portela, which premières at Vooruit on the 20th of November, and I still feel as if I haven’t seen, heard and tasted everything. The framework of this performance is a poetic text which intertwines dialogues between chirping birds, a princess from two different ages, Faust and a neurotic man. At this Banquet referring to the Platonic Symposium we celebrate the end and the future of mankind.
