Nieuwe vormen (van vrijheid), nieuwe engagementen, nieuw werk (ook van oude bekenden), nieuwe teleurstellingen (sorry), nieuwe ontroering, nieuwe verwachtingen, nieuwe verwarring (goed bedoeld), nieuwe voorstellingen, nieuwe veronderstellingen (het gaat echt goed zijn), nieuwe vooroordelen (overwonnen en bevestigd), nieuwe veroordelingen… Het zijn maar enkele van de beloften waarmee we het nieuwe podiumseizoen in Vooruit lanceren. Op onze publieksdagen in mei knopen we (zoals steeds bij het einde van het seizoen) een gesprek aan met onze (trouwe) Vooruitbezoekers.

New forms (of freedom), new commitments, new work (including work by old friends), new disappointments (sorry), new emotion, new expectations, new confusion (well meant), new exhibitions, new assumptions (it’s going to be really good), new presuppositions (overcome and confirmed), new prejudices… Just a few of the promises with which we launch the new performance season at Vooruit. At our public days in May, we will be talking (as we always do at the end of the season) to our (loyal) Vooruit visitors.

Hoe hebben zij het voorbije podiumseizoen beleefd? Wat verwachten ze van het komende seizoen? En we geven hen een intro bij het programma van 0809. Dit is de samenvatting:

Het podiumland is in transitie. De laatste jaren wagen steeds meer makers zich aan subgenres en nieuwe disciplines. Er is sprake van ‘hybridisering’. Dat is niet zo sinds gisteren: Guy Cassiers maakt al jaren theater dat met videokunst besmet wordt. Met Atropa tonen we het sluitstuk van zijn trilogie van de macht. Needcompany haalt met The Porcelain Project (zoals wel vaker) de band tussen dans, theater, muziek en beeldende kunst aan. Hetzelfde geldt voor Jan Fabre, die voor het eerst sinds lang weer een middelgrote voorstelling creëert met de suggestieve titel De orgie van de tolerantie.

The world of the stage is in transition. In recent years, a growing number of producers have become attached to sub-genres and new disciplines. People talk of ‘hybridization’. That is not something which just happened yesterday: Guy Cassiers has been making theatre infected with video art for years. With Atropa we show the finale of his trilogy of power. With The Porcelain Project, Needcompany forges the link (as they have done in the past) between dance, theatre, music and visual art. The same applies to Jan Fabre, who for the first time in a while has created a midsized production suggestively entitled The orgy of tolerance.

Het podiumland is in transitie (bis). Meer en meer podiumkunstenaars werken samen met mensen met heel verschillende achtergronden. Performance heet dat dan, bij gebrek aan een betere benaming. Denk maar Kris Verdonck, die vorig seizoen met l/ll/lll/llll een prachtige ‘dans’voorstelling maakte, maar van wie niet hetzelfde mag verwacht worden in 2008, wanneer hij met END naar Vooruit komt. Of hoe zou je het werk van de Amerikaanse groep Nature Theater of Oklahoma benoemen? Wat hun naam ook doet vermoeden, Poetics: a ballet brut is eerder brute dans met een theatrale knipoog. Nog een mooi voorbeeld is Superamas, die we al konden ontdekken tijdens the game is up! 2008 (Art For Sale) met hun indrukwekkende BIG-trilogie. In het seizoen 0809 komen ze terug met Empire (Art & Politics), een bizarre mix van gedubd theater, film en installatie. Het podiumland is dus in transitie (tris). Maar geen verandering zonder verankering. Niet alles moet voortdurend veranderen. Ook dit seizoen kan je heel wat bijzondere theater- en dansvoorstellingen zien die zich bij de leest houden…

The world of the stage is in transition (bis). More and more stage artists work together with people from a variety of backgrounds. Performance it is then called, for the lack of a better term. Just think of Kris Verdonck, for example, who last season produced an incredible ‘dance’ performance with l/ll/lll/llll, but of whom the same is not expected in 2008, when he will come to Vooruit with END. Or how would you classify the work of the American group, Nature Theatre of Oklahoma? Whatever their name brings to mind, Poetics: a ballet brut is more of a brutal dance with a theatrical wink. Another nice example is Superamas, which we were all able to discover during the game is up! 2008 (Art For Sale) with their impressive BIG trilogy. In season 0809 they return with Empire (Art & Politics), a bizarre mix of dubbed theatre, film and installation. The world of the stage is therefore in transition (tris). But no change without a point of anchorage. Not everything has to continually evolve. This season, too, you can see some exceptional theatre and dance performances which abide by tradition.
