Time 2009 is het negende en laatste Time Festival. Curatoren-kunstenaars Dirk Braeckman en Els Dietvorst maakten er een statement van: Time 2009 is een boek, veeleer een denkplek dan een evenement. Hun initiatief wil meer tijd géven dan nemen. Op 13 november zal Time is a book voor het eerst aan het publiek getoond worden. Dit gebeurt met een feestelijke book launch in de Bank van de Arbeid (Volderstraat 1, Gent). Vanaf die datum maak je ook kennis met (facetten van) het boek in de “time circles”. Vooruit is zo’n time circle, met een tentoonstelling van Nikolaus Gangsterer in het Bespreekbureau.

Time 2009 is the ninth and last edition of Time Festival and above all, a statement by the curators Dirk Braeckman and Els Dietvorst. Time 2009 is a book. A place to think rather than an event. In the rat race of life, this edition of the festival wants to give more time rather than taking it. On the 13th of November the Timebook will be launched wit an official book launch at the Bank van de Arbeid (Volderstraat 1, 9000 Ghent at 8:00 p.m.). The Timebook will spread out over the city of Ghent in ‘Time Circles’, an initiative in which a number of like-minded organizations use Time is a book as a source of inspiration. Vooruit is one of the time circles, with an exhibition by Nikolaus Gansterer in its box office.

Nikolaus Gansterer (°Oostenrijk, 1974) studeerde Transmedia kunst aan de Universiteit voor Toegepaste Kunst in Wenen en aan de Jan van Eyck Academie in Maastricht. Hij was oprichter van het Institute for Transacoustic Research en mede-oprichter van de Vienna Vegetable Orchestra – dat groentenorkest zag je misschien aan het werk in Vooruit? Sinds 2007 is hij gastspreker aan de Universiteit voor Toegepaste Kunst in Wenen. Hij is internationaal actief met tentoonstellingen, performances en lezingen. In het kader van TIME IS A BOOK richt hij in het Bespreekbureau van Vooruit een mini-tentoonstelling op: Bureau of Found Appropriations – Departement des Sourires, section 1 rond Dafen Village in China, waar meesters in de kopieerkunst massaal veel reproducties van de Mona Lisa of schilderijen van Van Gogh afleveren.

Nikolaus Gansterer (°Austria, 1974) studied transmedia art at the University of Applied Arts in Vienna and at the Jan van Eyck Academie in Maastricht, the Netherlands. He founded the Institute for Transacoustic Research and co-founded the Vienna Vegetable Orchestra. Since 2007 he has been Guest Lecturer at the University of Applied Arts in Vienna. He is internationally active engaging in exhibitions, performances and lectures. Nikolaus Gansterer’s contribution to Time is a book and the exhibition Bureau of Found Appropriations – Departement des Sourires, section 1 at Vooruit are both based on a study about cultural appropriation and forms of reproduction in Asia. The transfer of knowledge within Eastern cultures is based on transcription. Preserving the original consists of repeatedly imitating it. In China, unlike in the West, the technical skills of the original maker are revered through reproduction. The shift in notions of originality and authorship determined by culture was what started Gansterer collecting images which reflect on cultural practices, identity and authenticity.
