Sinds 15 oktober is de Ufo, de nieuwbouw van de Universiteit Gent naast Vooruit, in gebruik. Dit is het nieuwe zicht vanuit de Boekentoren, mét een zachte laag sneeuw eroverheen.

On the 15th of October, the Ufo, the new building of Ghent University next to Vooruit, was taken into use. This is the new view from the Boekentoren, covered with a soft layer of snow.

De foto is van Gwen Franck (Boekentoren – University Library). De Ufo (korte roepnaam voor Universiteitsforum) is een ontwerp van Stéphane Beel en Xaveer De Geyter.

Claire Croizé won de eerste prijs van de Prix Jardin d’Europe 2009 met The Farewell. De 4-koppige internationale jury van dansprofessionals (Pieter T’Jonck, Charlotte Vandevyver, Ula Sickle & Christa Spatt) motiveert die keuze als volgt:

Claire Croizé has won the first prize at the Prix Jardin d’Europe 2009 for The Farewell. The international jury of 4 professionals working in the contemporary dance scene (Pieter T’Jonck, Charlotte Vandevyver, Ula Sickle & Christa Spatt) explains:

“she succeeds in giving an equal importance to the elements of dance, lighting and music in confronting the major with the minor and likewise the minor with the major. The performance has the potential to reach a large public without watering down the choreographer’s artistic integrity.”

Op vrijdag 27 november 2009 kende de Provincie Oost-Vlaanderen de Provinciale Prijs Gelijke Kansen toe aan een instantie die zich inzet voor gelijke kansen en diversiteit. Kunstencentrum Vooruit was een van de 23 organisaties/instanties die, ondanks de strenge voorwaarden, een dossier hadden samengesteld om deel te nemen. En met zijn dossier omtrent personeelszorg en jobtrajecten haalde Vooruit ook de short list van 5 genomineerden, samen met Drukkerij St-Luc (Nazareth), X-trans bvba (Aalter), Hogeschool Sint-Lucas (Gent) en Welzijnsschakel Horizon (Sinaai). Uiteindelijk kwam Drukkerij St-Luc als winnaar uit de bus, een privé-onderneming die zorg besteedde aan een instapbeleid voor kansengroepen, aangepaste rekruteringskanalen, een onthaalbeleid en opleidingsmogelijkheden.

On Friday the 27th November 2009 the Province of East Flanders awarded the Provincial Prize for Equal Opportunities to an organization that strives for equal opportunities and diversity. The Vooruit Arts Centre was one of the 23 organizations that had sent in a portfolio to participate, despite the strict conditions. And thanks to its projects detailed in the portfolio concerning personnel care and job trajectories, Vooruit made the shortlist along with 5 other nominees, including the Drukkerij St-Luc (Nazareth), X-trans bvba (Aalter), Hogeschool Sint-Lucas (Ghent) and Welzijnsschakel Horizon (Sinaai). The winner was Drukkerij St-Luc, a private enterprise that has a special recruitment policy for minority groups, specialized recruitment mediums, a welcome policy and training opportunities.
