Vooruit-exe

Saxofonist Ellery Eskelin is één van de toppers in de huidige New Yorkse improvisatiescène. U kon hem eerder dit jaar al aan het werk horen op de festivals Jazz Brugge en Jazz & Sounds Gent. Hij is een spitsbroeder van schoon volk als Jim Black, Joey Baron, Sylvie Courvoisier en Marc Ribot. Wanneer in december ons eigenste RadioKUKAorkest de krachten met hem bundelt in een samenwerking met Vooruit en JazzLab Series, belooft dit één van de muzikale hoogtepunten van het eindejaar te worden. Tijd voor een gesprek met contrabassist en KUKA-hoofdman Kristof Roseeuw.

“We hebben RadioKUKAorkest vijf jaar geleden samengesteld om het Klara-programma De Kunstkaravaan, dat live en op locatie werd opgenomen, te begeleiden. We speelden toen allemaal reeds jaren samen in heel uiteenlopende ensembles. Klarinettist Tom Wauters en ik zijn beiden lid van het Spectra Ensemble en we delen dezelfde passie voor moderne concertmuziek. Met cellist Lode Vercampt bracht ik vooral klassieke muziek. En met accordeonist Philippe Thuriot begeleidde ik theatervoorstellingen. Wat ons allen verbindt is de fascinatie voor dat grijze veld tussen compositie en improvisatie.”

Vooruit heeft een lange traditie in het (co)produceren van muziekcreaties. In het verleden werden aan veel Gentse en andere componisten compositieopdrachten toevertrouwd om nieuw werk te creëren. In de komende weken staan twee creaties op het programma in Vooruit: Thomas Smetryns en Kaffe Matthew hebben zich verenigd als The Prongs en gaan in première op 29 april; Tom Wouters presenteert een nieuw project onder de naam Flick Flack Bat op 5 mei.

Vooruit heeft een traditie in het verlenen van compositieopdrachten en het (co)produceren van muziekproducties. Dit voorjaar coproduceert Vooruit samen met de Beursschouwburg een nieuw project van de Gentse componist Johan Derycke. Die is vooral bekend van zijn solo-muziektheatervoorstellingen en zijn live muziekbegeleiding bij wielerwedstrijden (Cyclophonics). Als hevige fan van Buster Keaton werkt hij nu aan een score voor Go West. Op dinsdag 23 februari te zien in Vooruit!

Vooruit has a tradition of commissioning compositions and producing or co-producing music productions. This spring, Vooruit and the Beursschouwburg are co-producing a new project by Ghent composer Johan Derycke. Derycke is mainly known for his solo performances combining music and theatre and his live musical accompaniment to cycling events (Cyclophonics). Seeing he’s big fan of Buster Keaton, he’s currently working on a score for Go West. Watch it live at Vooruit on the 23rd of February!

Claire Croizé won de eerste prijs van de Prix Jardin d’Europe 2009 met The Farewell. De 4-koppige internationale jury van dansprofessionals (Pieter T’Jonck, Charlotte Vandevyver, Ula Sickle & Christa Spatt) motiveert die keuze als volgt:

Claire Croizé has won the first prize at the Prix Jardin d’Europe 2009 for The Farewell. The international jury of 4 professionals working in the contemporary dance scene (Pieter T’Jonck, Charlotte Vandevyver, Ula Sickle & Christa Spatt) explains:

“she succeeds in giving an equal importance to the elements of dance, lighting and music in confronting the major with the minor and likewise the minor with the major. The performance has the potential to reach a large public without watering down the choreographer’s artistic integrity.”

Het nieuwe podiumseizoen in Vooruit begon met twee straffe coproducties: Springville van Miet Warlop en The Farewell van Claire Croizé.
