Vooruit-exe

Naar aanleiding van enkele ecologisch geïnspireerde films in het Filmfestival Gent (zoals ‘Under Control’ en ‘One Life’) liet Vooruit de Britse professor Tim Jackson aan het woord op 17 oktober 2011. Jackson doceert Duurzame Ontwikkeling aan de Universiteit van Surrey, is lid van de Britse Raad voor Duurzame Ontwikkeling en de auteur van Welvaart zonder Groei. I.s.m. NoordZuid-beweging, Stad Gent, Oikos, Mo-magazine en Filmfestival Gent.

Inspired by ecologically-themed films at the Ghent Film Festival (such as ‘Under Control’ and ‘One Life’), Vooruit invited British professor Tim Jackson for a talk on October 17th, 2011. Jackson is Sustainable Development professor at the University of Surrey, member of the UK Sustainable Development Commission and the author of Prosperity without Growth. In collaboration with NoordZuid-beweging, Stad Gent, Oikos, Mo magazine and the Ghent Film Festival.

Van Vooruit trokken Debbie Baute (projectcoördinator infrastructuur) en Reinout Hiel (scenograaf) op 23 november 2010 naar Solutions for Tomorrow, een infodag over duurzame product-, service- en procesinnovatie onder het motto Ecodesign als hefboom voor meer toegevoegde waarde. De infodag werd georganiseerd door het Agentschap Ondernemen Oost-Vlaanderen en het Innovatiecentrum Oost-Vlaanderen i.s.m. REcentre (centre for sustainable design), OVAM, Flanders InShape, OpenRaam (op Innovatieve Materiaaltechnologie), Design Vlaanderen. Vooruit was het enige cultuurhuis op het appèl. Debbie en Reinout haalden er (extra) informatie uit om hun aankopen van materialen en de planning van processen voor interieur en inkleding groener te laten kleuren. Ze leerden er werken met de Ecolizer 2.0, een instrument dat ontwerpers in staat stelt om de milieu-impact van hun product te berekenen.

Van Vooruit namen Hilde Vanderstraeten en Debbie Baute op 26 november 2010 deel aan de Slow Boat Conference #2 in Brussel (een organisatie van Kaaitheater, Vlaams Theater Instituut en Imagine 2020). Hilde en Debbie werken vanuit de dienst Infrastructuur aan een lange-termijnmilieubeleidsplan voor Vooruit. De Slow Boat Conference gaf hen voedsel om enkele topics (mobiliteit, artistieke planning) nader te bekijken met De Groene Vooruit. Vooral de lezing van Sian Alexander (Julie’s Bicycle) vonden ze heel inspirerend. Lees hier hun kort verslag van de Slow Boat Conference #2.

Duurzaamheid, ecologie, cradle to cradle, …. Vooruit schaart zich graag achter projecten die de leefbaarheid en levenskwaliteit van mensen opschroeven. Na initiatieven als How to save the world in ten days, Dikke-truiendag of Donderdag Veggiedag geven we van 11 maart tot 21 maart 2010 graag het woord aan ontwerpers en kunstenaars met een hart voor duurzaamheid, recyclage en schone dingen. Onder de noemer ekomotiv 1.0 mag organisator Kowboy Kaos vzw het publiek laten kennismaken met ‘gestyled duurzaam leven’ via een expo, workshops, lezingen, open ateliers en pop-up shops.

Sustainability, ecology, Cradle to Cradle, … Vooruit is eager to support projects that improve people’s comfort and quality of life. After projects such as How to save the world in ten days, Warm Sweater Day and Thursday Veggie Day, we will now put the spotlight on designers and artists with a heart for sustainability, recycling and beautiful objects from the 11th until the 21st of March 2010. Under the name ekomotive 1.0, organizer Kowboy Kaos vzw wants to introduce the audience to a ‘stylish sustainable life’, with an exhibition, workshops, lectures, open studios, and pop-up shops.

Voor het nieuwe Vooruitseizoen van start ging, werd de hoogspanningscabine van het Vooruitgebouw vervangen. De nieuwe installatie zal het mogelijk maken om het elektriciteitsverbruik per zaal te meten. En meten is weten, niet onbelangrijk omdat we inspanningen willen leveren om ons stroomverbruik omlaag te krijgen!

Before the new Vooruit season started, the building’s transmission substation was replaced. The new installation will allow us to measure each hall’s electricity usage separately. This is key to our effort to reduce our electricity usage!

Wie in 2004 al aan het werk was in Vooruit herinnert het zich vast nog: housekeeping was plots in de weer met micro en camera om hun ervaringen met ecologische schoonmaakproducten op video vast te leggen… Die kortstondige filmcarrière kaderde in de milieugedragsscan die Vooruit toen organiseerde en waaruit bleek dat er heel wat werknemers graag hun steentje bijdragen aan een proper milieu. Het beleidsplan 2010-2012 en concrete acties en ideeën die bottom-up ontstaan, tonen aan dat milieubewust ondernemen ondertussen is ingebakken bij de Vooruitploeg.

Those already working at Vooruit in 2004 will surely remember: the housekeeping crew was suddenly walking around with a microphone and a camera to record their experiences with ecological cleaning products. This short-lived film career was part of the environmental behaviour scan Vooruit organized at the time, from which it emerged that a lot of our employees were more than happy to contribute to a greener world. The 2010-2012 policy plan and effective measures and ideas that grew bottom-up show that the Vooruit team is truly committed to running an environmentally friendly arts centre.

Vlaams Theater Instituut en Kaaitheater organiseren op woensdag 12 november 2008 een bijeenkomst rond “de ecologische voetafdruk van de podiumkunsten” (10:00-17:00 in Kaaitheater – Brussel, in het Nederlands en Engels). In de sessie “ecobeheer” zal o.a. Wouter Vermeylen van Vooruit zijn ervaringen en knowhow delen.

On Wednesday the 12th of November 2008, the Vlaams Theater Instituut (Flemish Theatre Institute) and the Kaaitheater will organize a conference on “the ecological footprint of the performing arts” (10 a.m. – 5 p.m. in the Kaaitheater, Brussels in Dutch and English). In the session on ecobeheer (ecomanagement) Vooruit’s Wouter Vermeylen and others will share their experience and know-how.

Het begint een traditie te worden: de eerste twee weken van maart schiet het Vooruit-festival the game is up! zonder pardon alle kanten uit. In 2007, bij de eerste editie van the game is up! luidde de ondertitel You are about to do something you shouldn’t. Toen vroegen we ons af hoe kunstenaars verwijzen naar het spel, met zijn eigen codes en regels. In 2008 werd dat Art for sale en stelden we de precaire relatie tussen de (commerciële) markt en de kunst centraal.

It’s starting to become a tradition: the first two weeks of March, Vooruit festival the game is up! bounces every which way it can. In 2007, the first edition, the subtitle was You are about to do something you shouldn’t. Back then, we wondered how artists refer to the game, with its own codes and rules. With the 2008 theme Art for sale we questioned the fragile relation between the (commercial) market and art.

Ook in 2009 werken we onder de noemer the game is up!. Het festival wil meer dan ooit een publieksfestival zijn waar een nieuwsgierig publiek met (in Vlaanderen) onbekend maar sprekend internationaal werk kan kennismaken.

In 2009 we’ll continue to work under the title the game is up!. More than ever, the festival wants to be a festival for the audience, at which a curious audience can discover sparkling international artists that are as yet unknown in Flanders.
