10 weken lang organiseerden IBBT en Avenue L in de pop-up-bar n°13 Gent M: 10 inspirerende avonden over digitale creativiteit in Gent.

Vooruit werkte mee aan de 10de en laatste Gent M op 14 juni. Thema was ‘Kunst met grote N. Van nieuwe media’. Vooruit wilde een gesprek laten ontstaan over de manieren waarop nieuwe media kunstenaars beïnvloeden / helpen / uitdagen en de rol daarin van Vooruit als “kunstencentrum van de toekomst”. Kunstenaar-vernieuwer Sander Veenhof (Amsterdam) en Evi Swinnen (timelab Gent) waren te gast om voorbeelden uit de praktijk te geven.

Enkele (freelance) journalisten hebben zich de afgelopen weken verzameld om te ijveren voor het behoud van kritische cultuurjournalistiek. Recente ontwikkelingen in het medialandschap dreigen de cultuurkritiek immers meer en meer in hapklare formats te dwingen of al te zeer te focussen op grote namen. Om die evolutie aan te klagen lanceerde het collectief onder de noemer Press-for-more een visietekst en bijgaande petitie.

Several (freelance) journalists have gathered in the last weeks with a common goal: to safeguard critical art journalism. Recent developments in the media landscape threaten to limit art criticism to bite-size formats or to focus solely on big names. To denounce this evolution the collective launched a mission statement accompanied by a petition under the name Press-for-more een visietekst en bijgaande petitie.

Op 5 mei biedt Vooruit aan Press-for-more, geëngageerde collega’s uit de cultuursector en een geïnteresseerd cultuurpubliek ruimte voor een geanimeerde debatavond over cultuurjournalistiek.

On the 5th of May will offer Press-for-more, committed colleagues from the arts world and an interested culture audience a platform for an animated debate evening on art journalism.

The game is up! is naar jaarlijkse gewoonte een platform voor een aantal internationale podiumkunstenaars die er hun werk voor het eerst in België presenteren. Om te beginnen is er de wereldpremière van W.M.D. (just the low points), de nieuwe voorstelling van Sponsored by Nobody. (zie fragment making of:)

In een wereld van steeds toenemende technologische complexiteit wordt er tegenwoordig veel aandacht besteed aan innovatieve interactietechnieken tussen mens en computer. Nieuwe computerinterfaces worden daardoor geschikter voor gebruik in verschillende contexten en door een bredere doorsnede van de bevolking. Het project Multi-Media Multi-touch Table (MuTable) dat Kunstencentrum Vooruit leidt, met steun van het ICT- onderzoekscentrum IBBT, wil multi-touchtechnologie ontwikkelen tot op een niveau waarop ze in openbare ruimtes zoals musea en bibliotheken kan worden gebruikt. In a world where technology seems to be getting ever more complex, innovative interaction techniques between man and computer are becoming increasingly popular. These new techniques make new computer interfaces more suitable for different environments and accessible to a wider audience. p(english). The Multi-Media Multi-touch Table (MuTable) project, conducted by Vooruit Arts Centre in association with ICT research centre IBBT, wants to develop multi-touch technology on a level that can be used in public places such as museums and libraries. Central to the MuTable are the multi-touch widgets that enable the user to almost physically manipulate digital media. The project was presented at IBBT’s Brokerage event on the 7th of May 2008.
