Burgemeester Daniël Termont eindigde zijn bijdrage op de persconferentie in Shanghai met: Ladies and gentlemen, do not miss this opportunity to witness some of the best that the city of Ghent has to offer in music! Our reputation as a ‘creating city’ is at stake: you will not be disappointed. Gent heeft de test goed doorstaan. Het Chinese publiek was enthousiast ,nieuwsgierig en geïnteresseerd in wat er aan de andere kant van het continent muzikaal wordt geproduceerd. Abysnthe Minded (AM) en Mo&Grazz werden warm onthaald in de rockclubs Mao Live (Shanghai en Beijing) en Mako (Beijing), met handtekensessies en een goeie cdverkoop als resultaat. De ticketprijzen hadden misschien iets lager gekund om nog meer en ook de minder bemiddelde Chinees te bereiken (80RMB op een gemiddeld maandloon van 1.100RMB is veel – maar blijkbaar wel standaard in de rockclubs van deze grootsteden). Volgens de eerste secretaris van de Belgische Ambassade in Beijing (die een verwoed concertganger is) maakten we in ieder geval een heel goeie beurt in China.

Van 12 tot en met 15 december 2007 organiseert Vooruit een nieuwe editie van Etoiles Polaires, deze keer met een focus op Finse muziek en mediakunst. Het programma staat online! Ontdek oude bekenden in nieuwe formaties (zoals Pan Sonic met cellospeler Arne Deforce of Jimi Tenor die samenwerkt met Flat Earth Society en beeldend kunstenaar Maippi Ketola) of laat je nieuwsgierigheid prikkelen door nieuwe namen en geluiden (zoals Pekko Käppi of Cleaning Women). Via de Vooruit community hoor je meer over de deelnemende artiesten en groepen – vers aangevoerd uit het winterse Finland.

From the 12th until the 15th of December 2007, the second edition of Etoiles Polaires will take place in Vooruit. This time we’ll focus on Finnish music and media art. You can check out the programme here. Old favourites will collaborate with other artists, leading to exciting results (Pansonic will work with cellist Arne Deforce and Jimi Tenor will do the same with Flat Earth Society and artist Maippi Ketola). You can also discover new names and sounds (like Pekko Käppi or Cleaning Women). You’ll be able to read more news (fresh from Finland) about the performing musicians and featured artists in the Vooruit Community.
