In 2009 ging het informele netwerk WEB van start. De bedoeling was om per jaar een tweetal projecten te ondersteunen van A tot Z, van planning en productie, over presentatie tot spreiding. De partners die toen rond de tafel zaten waren naast Vooruit nog WpZimmer (Antwerpen), BUDA (Kortrijk), Frascati (Amsterdam), HAU (Berlijn), Fabrik Potsdam, 104 (Parijs) en Uzès Danse (Uzès). Samen selecteerden we, na vele gesprekken en ontmoetingen met artiesten, twee projecten die de ondersteuning van het netwerk zouden genieten in 2010. Het gaat om For Faces van de Duitse choreografe Antonia Baehr en Already Made van de Franse kunstenaar Gaetan Bulourde. Beide projecten gingen ondertussen in première (volgende speeldata Antonia Baehr: 03-05/12/10 HAU Berlin, 18-19/02/11 Tanzquartier Wien, 16-17/03/11 Frascati Amsterdam, jun/11 Uzès Danse). En de partners van het netwerk mogen tevreden zijn. Heel verscheiden in hun opzet slagen zowel Baehr als Bulourde erin om een stap te zetten in hun oeuvre en om hun signatuur te perfectioneren.

Het interregionaal platform voor kunst, onderzoek en technologie Transdigital komt in 2010 op kruissnelheid. Na een jaar van zoeken, onderzoeken en concepten uittesten worden de eerste resultaten van de samenwerking tussen cultuurhuizen, kunstenaars, onderzoekscentra en bedrijven in Vlaanderen, Wallonië en Noord-Frankrijk voorgesteld aan het publiek.

Transdigital, the interregional network for art, research and technology will reach its apex in 2010. After a year of investigation, research, and trying out concepts, the first results of the collaboration between arts centres, artists, research centres and companies in Flanders, Wallonia, and Northern France will be presented to the audience.

Transdigital presenteert drie soorten projecten / Transdigital will present three types of projects:

• - Seminaries waarbij kennisoverdracht en networking voorop staat / seminars placing knowledge transfer and networking centrally;
• - Workshops waarbij artiesten, onderzoekers en technologiewereld hands-on aan de slag gaan / workshops where artists, researchers and the tech industry go for the hands-on approach;
• - Producties waarbij artiesten samen met bedrijven de samenwerking in praktijk brengen / productions putting the collaboration between artists and companies in practice.

In 2009 nam Vooruit het initiatief om enkele gelijkgestemde organisaties in binnen- en buitenland samen te brengen in een informeel netwerk, onder de naam WEB. Het gaat om wpZimmer (Antwerpen), Kunstencentrum BUDA (Kortrijk), Frascati (Amsterdam), Fabrik (Potsdam), Hebbel am Ufer (Berlijn), 104 [CENTQUATRE] (Parijs) en Uzès Danse (Uzès). Bij de partners wordt aangevoeld dat de preproductionele fase als een zware last op de schouders van onafhankelijke artiesten ligt. Ze moeten zich vaak bezighouden met alle facetten die het opzetten van een project behelzen zoals budgetbeheer, het zoeken van financiële partners, artistieke planning, residenties zoeken, etc—of ze daarvoor nu de nodige competentie bezitten of niet. In feite is die knowhow wel aanwezig bij de partners van WEB. We delen de ambitie om voor een beperkt aantal artiesten per jaar de opvolging van A tot Z te doen, zodat ze voor één keer hun project op poten kunnen zetten zonder verloren te lopen in de rompslomp van boekhouding en meetings.

In 2009, Vooruit took the initiative to bring together a number of like-minded organizations in Belgium and abroad in an international network called WEB. The participating organizations are wpZimmer (Antwerp), KC Buda (Kortrijk), Frascati (Amsterdam), Fabrik (Potsdam), HAU (Berlijn), 104 (Paris), and Uzès Danse (Uzès). The partners agree that the pre-production phase is a heavy burden for independent artists. They often have to take care of all the aspects of their projects, including budget planning, finding financial partners, artistic planning, finding residencies etc. whether they are skilled to do so or not. However, the WEB partners do possess this knowledge. We share the ambition to follow up a selection of artists from A to Z during an entire year, so the artists can focus on the realization of their project without getting lost in the administrative labyrinth of meetings and finances.

Kunstencentrum Vooruit en het Festival van Vlaanderen sloegen de handen ineen voor ONE ON ONE, de herfstmeeting van IETM (Informal European Theatre Meeting) in en rond Vooruit. Tijdens vier hectische dagen in oktober kwamen 499 deelnemers uit 33 landen bijeen om kennis te maken met nieuwe technologieën en toepassingen, voorstellingen te zien (meer dan 90 in vier dagen tijd), contacten te leggen en Gent te verkennen. Veel liefde en dank aan de collega’s en partners, sprekers, moderatoren, artiesten en deelnemers voor inzet, goesting en aanwezigheid bij deze onvergetelijke vierdaagse. ONE ON ONE, the IETM Fall Meeting in Ghent, hosted by Vooruit and the Festival of Flanders, was a great overall success. During 4 hectic days, 499 participants from 33 countries gathered to explore emerging technologies and to learn new skills, watch performances (more than 90 in 4 days time), expand their network and check out the city of Ghent. Op 4 oktober landt het netwerk voor podiumkunstenorganisaties IETM (Informal European Theatre Meeting) in Gent; Festival van Vlaanderen en Vooruit zijn gastheer. De IETM-meeting in Gent neemt de groeiende synergieën tussen kunst, onderzoeks- en technologische wereld onder de loep.

Van 6 tot 9 september heeft de tweede editie plaats van de Flemish Jazz Meeting. Gedurende vier dagen wordt de Belgische jazz in de schijnwerpers geplaatst voor nationale en vooral internationale critici, programmatoren en organisatoren. Het programma zal workshops, debatten, infosessies en natuurlijk concerten omvatten. Op de affiche staan tien groepen gekozen door een jury samengesteld uit de Belgische jazzscène (media, organisatoren en programmatoren zoals Wim Wabbes van Vooruit).

From the 6th until the 9th of September, the second edition of the Flemish Jazz Meeting will take place. For four days, the Belgian Jazz scene will be placed in the spotlight in front of national and international critics, programmers and event organisers. The programme will include workshops, debates, information sessions and, of course, concerts. On the bill: ten bands that have been handpicked by a jury composed of members of the Belgian jazz scene (media, event organisers and programmers such as Vooruit’s own Wim Wabbes).

Annemie Maes runt medialab en presentatieplek Okno in Brussel. Sedert lang is er goesting en inspiratie om samenwerking te zoeken. Toen we beiden geïnteresseerd bleken in het Upgrade! netwerk – een internationaal netwerk met als doelstelling kunst en technologie samen te brengen en daarbij culturele verschillen te overschrijden – beslisten we om er samen in te stappen: Upgrade! Brussels/Ghent is binnenkort een feit.

Annemie Maes runs Okno, a medialab and presentation venue located in Brussels. For years now, Vooruit and Okno have longed to work together. When it became clear that we were both interested in the Upgrade! Network – an international network that wants to bring art and technology closer together and hopes to cross cultural boundaries in doing that – we decided to jump into it together: Upgrade! Brussels/Ghent will soon be fact.

Op 15 september beleef je in Vooruit de internationale première van IMPLANT, een interactieve virtuele wereld en publieke installatie van het kunstenaarsduo Thomas Soetens en Kora Van den Bulcke van Workspace Unlimited. IMPLANT is al de 3de virtuele omgeving in een netwerk van virtuele werelden (common grounds network) toegankelijk via kunstencentra. De rode draad: elke creatie is zowel conceptueel als fysiek aan een partnerorganisatie gebonden en doet je reflecteren over (de vervaging van) het onderscheid tussen reëel en virtueel …

On 15 September at the Vooruit it was the international opening of Implant, an interactive virtual world and public installation by the artist duo Thomas Soetens and Kora Van den Bulcke of Workspace Unlimited. Implant is already the third virtual environment in a network of virtual worlds (the common grounds network) that is accessible through arts centres. The common theme is that each creation is both conceptually and physically tied to a partner organisation and is intended to make you reflect on the distinction between real and virtual, and the blurring of this distinction.
