Het afscheid van podiumprogrammeur Tom Bonte (inmiddels algemeen directeur van de Brusselse Beursschouwburg) en de komst van Barbara Raes, die vanaf 1 september 2011 stap voor stap de artistieke leiding van Kunstencentrum Vooruit zal overnemen van Luc Dewaele (en nu haar opdracht als artistiek leider van Buda Kortrijk afrondt), heeft een veranderingsproces ingeluid in het artistiek team van Vooruit.

Vooruit heeft twee nieuwe programmeurs aangetrokken om het artistiek team te versterken: Maarten Soete (voorheen rocsa, TAZ, Bâtard en VTi) zal zich vanaf september 2011 inzetten voor het programma lokale podiumkunsten en actie/publieke ruimte van Vooruit. In januari 2012 zal ook Mathieu Goeury (voorheen o.m. Centre Pompidou Metz en L’L) aan de slag gaan in Vooruit. Hij zal zich in de eerste plaats op de internationale podiumkunsten concentreren.

Superamas heeft een boek uit over de veelbesproken BIG-trilogie, die in Vooruit te zien was in maart 2008 (tijdens the game is up! – Art for sale): BIG 3 EPISODES [art \ discourse]. Het Frans-Ootenrijkse kunstenaarscollectief Superamas, opgericht in 1999 met uitvalsbasis Wenen, hekelt de oppervlakkige zapcultuur en koketteert met het doorgedreven consumptiegedrag dat eigen is aan de hedendaagse mens. Dat doen de performers van Superamas door zich er helemaal aan over te geven! Hun voorstellingen bedienen zich rijkelijk van banaliteiten en kitsch (“readymades” uit het dagelijks leven). Die elementen worden afgezonderd, in andere contexten gebracht, ontmanteld en bevraagd met filmische technieken als montage en sampling. Hoe dun de plot van hun projecten ook is, de vorm is steeds verbluffend ingenieus.

The Superamas launch a book on their much-talked-of BIG trilogy (seen in Vooruit in March 2008 at the game is up! festival). In this series of performances, the French/Austrian artists collective takes on dance with materials from other areas of life. The group uses “untreated”, often unspectacular circumstances as well as readymades coming from everyday culture, and it treats those elements equally. Superamas are especially interested in attributes developing from the combined presentation of materials and their newly derived connections. “Showing” here means “letting see”, “expose to view”. In the context of public performance, Superamas call their work “dé-montrer”, separating and dismantling that which in its original state presented a unit or entity. According to this concept, visible facts are questioned. Samples from films and cutting techniques are implemented in the artistic work.

Daarmee neemt het internationaal theater/filmcollectief Superamas een volgende stap in een speels onderzoek naar de manier waarop de mens de werkelijkheid fictionaliseert. Superamas roept je nu op om je dromen te delen op Youdream.be (via Youtube, Imovie of photo-booth). Misschien duikt jouw droom op in hun voorstelling Youdream, een coproductie van Vooruit die op 17-18 december in de Theaterzaal van Vooruit te zien is. Op 28 februari gaat Compagnie De Koe in première met haar nieuwe voorstelling ‘Burgerlijke Ongehoorzaamheid’. Het is de jonge garde van het gezelschap die met deze voorstelling de wereld wil veranderen, in een vorm van aanstekelijk jeugdig enthousiasme. Met de film ‘Le charme discrèt de la bourgeoisie’ van cineast Luis Buñuel onder de arm wagen Stefaan Degand, Pol Geusens, Nico Sturm en Nick Timmermans zich aan die nobele taak.

Voor de tweede keer lanceert Vooruit ‘The Game is Up!’, een internationaal festival waarin we nagaan hoe artiesten codes en regels doorbreken of er de draak mee steken. In 2007 was het motto ‘You are about to do something you shouldn’t’, dit jaar is de baseline ‘Art for Sale’.

Van 5 t.e.m. 15 maart 2008 onderzoekt The Game is Up! de relatie tussen kunst en de alomtegenwoordige commerciële omgeving. De artiesten in het festival zijn erg verschillend maar delen één opvallend kenmerk: ze houden zich maar al te graag op in dat gespannen speelvlak. Hun verhouding tot entertainment en commercie is ambigu en vaak recupereren ze de codes ervan om hun eigen ding te doen.

For the second year in a row, Vooruit will host The game is up!, an international festival for artists that break or mock the codes and rules. In 2007, we operated under the catchphrase ‘You are about to do something you shouldn’t’ and this year ‘Art for sale’ will be our motto from the 5th until the 15th of March 2008. The game is up! will take a closer look at the relationship between art and consumerism.
